Cookie Policy

Last updated: January 15, 2025

This Cookie Policy explains how Prosperty, Inc. ("Prosperty," "we," "our," or "us") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website at theprospecty.com and our web-based platform. It describes what these technologies are, why we use them, what information they collect, and how you can control them.

By using our website and platform, you consent to our use of cookies as described in this policy. If you do not accept the use of non-essential cookies, you can manage your preferences through the cookie banner that appears when you first visit our site, or by adjusting your browser settings as described below.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, smartphone, or other device when you visit a website or use a web application. They are widely used by website operators to make their sites work, improve functionality, and provide reporting information. Cookies allow a website to recognize your device and remember information between page loads and across sessions.

Cookies are not programs — they cannot carry viruses or install malware on your device. They contain only information, not executable code. Most web browsers accept cookies by default, and you can configure your browser to refuse cookies or alert you when they are being sent.

Related Tracking Technologies

In addition to cookies, we and our service providers may use other tracking technologies including:

  • Web beacons (pixels): small, transparent image files embedded in web pages or emails that track whether a page was viewed or an email was opened.
  • Local storage: similar to cookies but stored on your device's local storage rather than transmitted with HTTP requests. We use localStorage exclusively for cookie consent preferences.
  • Session storage: temporary storage that is cleared when you close your browser tab.
  • Fingerprinting: techniques that identify devices based on browser configuration, fonts, and other attributes. We do not engage in device fingerprinting for tracking purposes.

2. Types of Cookies We Use

2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the website and platform to function and cannot be switched off. They are typically set in response to actions you take, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, filling in forms, or using platform features. Without these cookies, services you have asked for cannot be provided.

Examples of strictly necessary cookies we use:

  • Session authentication cookies: verify your identity during a logged-in session, allowing you to navigate between pages without being asked to log in repeatedly.
  • Security cookies: help detect and prevent cross-site request forgery and other security threats.
  • Load-balancing cookies: ensure consistent performance by directing your requests to the same server during a session.
  • Cookie consent cookie: remembers your cookie preference choices so you are not asked again on every visit.

These cookies cannot be disabled as they are required for the service to operate. They do not store any personally identifiable information beyond what is strictly necessary for session management.

2.2 Functional Cookies

Functional cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you disable these cookies, some or all of these services may not function properly.

Examples of functional cookies we use:

  • Preference cookies: remember your settings such as language preference, display theme (light/dark mode), dashboard layout, and other user interface customizations.
  • Autofill cookies: remember information you have previously entered in forms to save you time.
  • Saved search cookies: retain your most recent search parameters and filters so you can quickly return to previous queries.
  • Feature flag cookies: used to deliver specific features to user cohorts during A/B testing and controlled feature rollouts.

2.3 Analytics and Performance Cookies

Analytics cookies collect information about how visitors use our website and platform — which pages are visited most often, how users navigate between pages, where they encounter errors, and how long they spend on each section. This data helps us understand user behavior and improve the quality and performance of our services.

The analytics data collected through these cookies is aggregated and does not directly identify individual users. Examples of analytics cookies we use:

  • Google Analytics: collects information about page views, session duration, traffic sources, and user interactions. We have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymization and data processing restrictions that limit data sharing with Google for advertising purposes. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Performance monitoring: tools that measure page load times, API response times, JavaScript errors, and other technical performance metrics.
  • Heatmap and session recording tools: if deployed, these record anonymized or pseudonymized user interactions (mouse movements, clicks, scrolling behavior) to help us understand how the interface is being used. We notify users in the relevant section of the interface when session recording is active.

2.4 Targeting and Marketing Cookies

These cookies are used to deliver advertisements and marketing content that is relevant to your interests. They may be set by our advertising partners through our site. They work by recognizing your browser across different websites and building a profile of your interests.

Currently, Prosperty uses limited marketing cookies in the following contexts:

  • Retargeting pixels: when activated for specific campaigns, these allow advertising platforms (such as LinkedIn and Google Ads) to show Prosperty advertisements to people who have previously visited our website.
  • Conversion tracking: cookies that track when a user who clicked on a Prosperty advertisement subsequently signs up or completes another goal action, allowing us to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.

You may opt out of interest-based advertising through industry opt-out mechanisms such as the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out portal or the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out portal (for EU users).

3. Cookie Duration

Cookies can be classified by how long they remain on your device:

3.1 Session Cookies

Session cookies are temporary and are deleted from your device when you close your browser or end your session. They are used to maintain session state — for example, keeping you logged in as you navigate between pages. Most authentication and security cookies are session cookies.

3.2 Persistent Cookies

Persistent cookies remain on your device for a specified period after your session ends. They are used to remember your preferences and settings across visits, and for analytics and marketing purposes. The duration of persistent cookies varies:

  • Preference cookies: typically 1 year, renewable on each visit.
  • Analytics cookies: typically 2 years for tools like Google Analytics, though configurable.
  • Marketing/retargeting cookies: typically 30–90 days.
  • Cookie consent cookie: 1 year from the date you set your preferences.

4. First-Party vs. Third-Party Cookies

4.1 First-Party Cookies

First-party cookies are set directly by Prosperty for our own website and platform. We have full control over these cookies and they are only accessible to Prosperty. All strictly necessary and functional cookies are first-party cookies.

4.2 Third-Party Cookies

Third-party cookies are set by domains other than Prosperty when our website loads resources from external services. These may include analytics providers (Google Analytics), advertising platforms (LinkedIn, Google Ads), and embedded content providers. Third-party providers are governed by their own privacy and cookie policies, and Prosperty has limited direct control over how they set and use cookies.

Third-party providers we use that may set cookies include:

  • Google Analytics (analytics) — Google Privacy Policy
  • Stripe (payment processing) — Stripe Privacy Policy
  • Intercom or similar (customer support chat, if active) — provider's privacy policy linked in the chat widget
  • LinkedIn Insight Tag (retargeting, if active) — LinkedIn Privacy Policy

5. How to Control Cookies

5.1 Cookie Banner

When you first visit our website, a cookie consent banner will appear offering you the choice to accept all cookies or to manage your preferences. Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage and respected on subsequent visits. You can change your preferences at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or by contacting us.

5.2 Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically find these settings in your browser's privacy, security, or preferences menu. Options available in most browsers include:

  • Viewing the cookies stored by your browser and deleting specific ones.
  • Blocking all cookies, or cookies from specific sites.
  • Setting your browser to alert you when cookies are being set.
  • Using "private" or "incognito" browsing mode, which prevents cookies from being stored after the session ends.

Please note that blocking all cookies will affect the functionality of most websites, including Prosperty. Strictly necessary cookies are required for our services to work — if you block them, you will not be able to log in or use the platform. Browser-specific cookie management instructions are available for:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

5.3 Do Not Track

Some browsers transmit a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal to websites. Because there is currently no uniform standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, Prosperty does not currently respond to DNT signals differently from normal traffic. We continue to explore options for responding to DNT in a way that is consistent with applicable standards as they develop.

5.4 Opt-Out Tools

For specific types of tracking, additional opt-out tools are available:

  • Google Analytics: install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
  • Interest-based advertising (US): Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out
  • Interest-based advertising (EU): Your Online Choices

6. Impact of Disabling Cookies

The impact of disabling cookies depends on which types you disable:

  • Disabling strictly necessary cookies: the platform will not function. You will be unable to log in, maintain a session, or use most features.
  • Disabling functional cookies: the platform will work but will not remember your preferences, requiring you to reconfigure settings on each visit.
  • Disabling analytics cookies: the platform will work normally. We will have less data about how the service is being used, which may slow our ability to identify and fix issues.
  • Disabling marketing cookies: the platform will work normally. You may still see Prosperty advertisements elsewhere, but they will be less targeted to your interests.

7. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use, new legal requirements, or changes in our business practices. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
